AUGMENTED FLEXIBILITY

Exploring the Future of Mixed Reality Architecture
Through Interactive Scenarios ( Thesis Project Prototype)

The Augmented Flexibility Prototype is an innovative exploration of mixed reality architecture, blurring the lines between physical and virtual spaces. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, this prototype showcases an architectural interface that adapts to various scenarios in collaborative workspaces, entertainment, and education.

This experience-oriented project was designed with a focus on conveying the architectural concept and system mechanics through a series of immersive scenarios. By simulating these scenarios in a virtual reality environment, users can fully comprehend and appreciate the potential of mixed reality architecture in a wide range of applications.

The prototype features an outer digital fabrication laboratory and an inner mixed-reality architectural cell comprised of pixels. With nine carefully crafted scenarios, each level highlights different aspects and mechanics of the system:

  1. Collaborative Workspaces 1: F1 Design Studios

  2. Collaborative Workspaces 2: Multi-Branch Architecture & Urban Design Studio

  3. Entertainment Scene 1: Fashion Show & Art Gallery

  4. Entertainment Scene 2: Mixed-Reality Shooter Game

  5. Entertainment Scene 3: Networked Performance Spaces

  6. Education Scene 1: Symposium of Distributed Spaces

  7. Education Scene 2: Conventional Classroom with Mixed-Reality Tools

  8. Education Scene 3: Joint Architecture Urban Design Studio Class of Distributed Spaces

These scenarios demonstrate how the same space can be experienced in different places, tailored to various user groups and their unique needs. With the inclusion of mixed reality technologies, the Augmented Flexibility Prototype showcases the future of spatial experience and the evolving role of architecture in designing patterns of co-presence.

To provide a comprehensive overview of the prototype and its features, a video compilation of the experiments has been created. This video captures the essence of the Augmented Flexibility Prototype, offering viewers an engaging and immersive experience that exemplifies the potential of mixed reality architecture.

Dive into the Augmented Flexibility Prototype and explore the future of mixed reality architecture through interactive scenarios that challenge the boundaries between physical and virtual spaces.
